The Schlage BE365VCAM622 is a battery-powered keypad deadbolt in Matte Black with Schlage’s Camelot trim. You unlock it with a code, and it has no app, no Wi-Fi and no account to set up.

The catch is what it leaves out. There is no auto-lock, no remote access and no smart home support, so it’s a plain keypad lock and nothing more. We also found no independent hands-on review of this exact model, so the details below come from Schlage, its manual and retailer listings.

Feature Schlage BE365VCAM622
Finish and trim Matte Black, Camelot
User codes Up to 19
Connectivity None (no app, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth)
Power One 9V battery, included (per Schlage’s product sheet)
Key backup Yes, one key included
Security grade Grade 2 (BHMA Residential Grade AAA)
Door thickness 1-3/8″ to 1-3/4″
Backset 2-3/8″ or 2-3/4″

What Works With No Subscription

Everything. The lock has no cloud, so there is nothing to subscribe to. Codes are stored on the lock and entered at the keypad.

The tradeoff is that you manage every code by hand at the door. If you want phone control instead, see our best smart locks roundup and our Schlage Encode review.

What It Does Not Do

Build.com’s listing says auto-lock isn’t available, and also lists no temporary access, remote access, usage monitoring or smart home support. Schlage’s manual describes no alarm either.

Feature Supported?
Auto-lock No
Phone app or remote unlock No
Alexa, Google or Apple Home No
Activity history No
Scheduled guest codes No
Fire rating Not fire rated, per Build.com

That makes it a fit for a rental, a shed door or a family entry where a code beats a key. It’s a poor fit if you want to let a guest in remotely.

How the Codes and Locking Work

The lock holds up to 19 four-digit user codes. It ships with two default user codes and a six-digit programming code, all printed on a yellow sticker on the back of the keypad, per Schlage’s manual.

To unlock, enter a code and turn the thumbturn toward the hinges. To lock, press the Schlage button and turn the thumbturn away from the hinges.

“Turn Lock” is enabled by default. That means anyone can lock the deadbolt from outside by pressing the button and turning the thumbturn. You can disable it so a valid code is needed first.

Setting What it does
Vacation Mode Stops every user code from unlocking the door
Emergency Lock Override Disables the keypad completely, so only the key works
Wrong-code lockout The keypad pauses for 30 seconds after too many wrong codes

Batteries and Weather

Schlage’s product sheet lists one included 9V battery. Build.com says the battery should last three or more years but doesn’t name the battery type, so treat that as a retailer claim.

The lock warns you before it dies. Schlage’s support page says the indicator flashes red before flashing green after a valid code, and the manual says a delay before unlocking also means the battery is low. If the battery fully dies, the key still works.

Schlage rates the lock for -31°F to 150.8°F on the outside. The same product sheet lists 14°F to 122°F on the interior side.

Installation

It needs no wiring, and a Phillips screwdriver is enough, according to a retailer listing. Schlage says it fits doors 1-3/8″ to 1-3/4″ thick with a 2-1/8″ cross bore. Doors up to 2-1/2″ need a separate Schlage kit.

The backset adjusts between 2-3/8″ and 2-3/4″. Measure your door and existing backset before you order.

Schlage BE365VCAM622 Electronic Keypad Deadbolt, Matte Black

The BE365 is a no-frills keypad deadbolt with a backlit keypad and wear-resistant buttons, per Home Depot’s listing. A retailer listing describes the body as zinc, and it uses Schlage’s C keyway with one key in the box.

Home Depot shows a 4.6 out of 5 rating from 593 reviews on its Matte Black listing. That’s a retailer rating, and we couldn’t read the reviews themselves, so it tells you the lock is popular rather than what owners dislike.

Warranty details disagree between sources. Home Depot and Schlage’s product sheet say three years on the electronics, while Build.com’s listing says one year. Check the term on the listing you buy from.

One real risk is the factory reset. It erases every user code, and the manual warns that Schlage customer service can’t recover lost default codes. Keep the programming guide somewhere safe.

Pros Cons
No subscription, app or account
Up to 19 user codes
Backlit keypad
Key backup if the battery dies
No auto-lock or remote access
No smart home support
Not fire rated
No independent review we could find

Best for: Anyone who wants simple code entry on an entry door and doesn’t need a phone.
